One Day One City Episode Two | Telgárt, Slovakia with the MV Agusta Dragster 800
After the first episode of One Day One City, where I explored the historic streets of Banská Štiavnica, climbed the dome of Esztergom, and even visited cattle near Bratislava, it was time for another adventure.
But this time, I wanted something different.
Less city, Less buildings More nature and nature is exactly where I went.
The goal for this trip was to discover the beauty of central Slovakia, ride some amazing roads, and find places that remind you why motorcycles are not just about getting somewhere.
They are about the journey.
So I jumped on the MV Agusta Dragster 800 and headed towards Telgárt.
The Telgárt Viaduct — The First Stop
The first stop of the trip was one of the most iconic motorcycle and photography locations in Slovakia the Telgárt Viaduct.
This impressive railway bridge is part of the historic railway line connecting Brezno and Margecany, and it is considered one of the most beautiful railway structures in Slovakia.
The viaduct was built in the 1930s and crosses the Telgárt valley with a beautiful curved design that blends perfectly into the surrounding nature.
Standing there and watching the train cross the bridge feels like stepping into a postcard.
Of course, I wanted that perfect shot. And that meant waiting. And waiting. And waiting.
I almost destroyed both of my cameras trying to capture the train crossing the bridge, but eventually… I got the shots.
If you want to see the train crossing the Telgárt Viaduct yourself, the best times to catch it are:
Around 16:00 on weekdays
Around 11:45 and 12:45 on weekends
I would recommend arriving at least 10–15 minutes earlier because train schedules can change and you don’t want to miss the moment after travelling all that way.
Trust me. It is worth the wait.
Depo Café A Quick Coffee Break
After spending time at the viaduct, it was time for a small break.
Next stop was Depo Café.
After riding for hours, sometimes you don’t need a big meal or a long stop.
You just need coffee. A small snack. A place to sit for 10–15 minutes and reset before continuing the adventure.
And that is exactly what this stop was about. Fuel for the rider before the next destination.
Prameň Hrona Where the River Begins
Next on the list was Prameň Hrona — the source of the Hron River. This place is a perfect example of why I wanted this trip to focus on nature. The Hron River is one of the most important rivers in Slovakia, flowing for almost 300 kilometres before joining the Danube near Štúrovo. Standing at the source, it is interesting to think that this small stream eventually becomes such a significant part of the Slovak landscape. The area around the spring is peaceful, surrounded by forests and mountains. There is also a small wooden bridge near the source, which makes the location even more photogenic.
It is not a place where you spend hours doing activities. It is a place where you stop, reathe, and appreciate nature. And honestly? Those are sometimes the best places.
The Ground Squirrel Farm A Surprise Stop
The next stop was something I honestly did not expect to enjoy as much as I did. A place where ground squirrels run freely and you can feed them by hand, Yes you read that correctly. Wild little squirrels just coming to you because they know humans might bring snacks.
The experience is simple. You sit on a bench near the fence, wait patiently, and eventually they start appearing. Especially if you are travelling with children, this is definitely a must-do activity. Watching these small animals run around and come close is something completely different from a normal tourist attraction.
It feels natural and relaxed.
A small warning though.
If you are travelling by motorcycle, be careful where you park. I parked nearby and ended up paying 7 euros for parking. A little expensive for a motorcycle stop, but now you know.
The New Park / Zoo and Giant Statues
Right across the road from the squirrel area is another attraction a new park/zoo area with animals and giant statues. The main attraction here is not really the animals.
It is the huge sculptures. To reach them, you have to walk up the hill, which honestly adds to the adventure.
The entry fee was 9 euros. For just a few statues, it feels slightly expensive.
But at the same time, if you are travelling with children, I think they will absolutely love it.
The combination of walking, exploring, animals, and giant figures makes it a fun family stop.
Sometimes places are not about being perfect value for money they are about creating memories.
Ranč pod Ostrou skalou Food Reward
At this point… I was hungry. Very hungry.
After all the walking, climbing, and exploring, it was time for proper food. So I went to Ranč pod Ostrou skalou. And here I found something special Langoš.
But not just any langoš. Langoš with cheese and pulled beef.
I have eaten plenty of langoš in my life, but I have never had one with meat before. And honestly? It worked. The combination was surprisingly good.
The food was tasty, the portions were satisfying, and the service was great. A perfect stop after spending the day outside.
Stratenský Kaňon The Final Nature Stop
For the final stop of the trip, I wanted one more place where I could simply enjoy nature.
That place was Stratenský Kaňon.
This location is an old closed road that has been transformed into a peaceful walking route through small valleys and canyons. The road follows alongside a beautiful stream, and the sound of flowing water makes the whole place incredibly calm. It is one of those places where you automatically slow down.
No traffic. No noise. Just nature.
A perfect ending to a day focused on exploring Slovakia’s hidden beauty.
Highlights of the Trip
This trip was exactly what I wanted from this episode.
A day focused on nature.
Beautiful roads.
Unexpected places.
And another unforgettable ride.
The biggest challenge?
Trying to capture the train crossing the Telgárt Viaduct.
I almost sacrificed both of my cameras for that shot… but at least I got it.
The MV Agusta Dragster 800 carried me through around 500 kilometres of Slovak roads, and every single kilometre was worth it.
This is why I love motorcycles. Not just because of the machine. Because they give you a reason to explore.
A reason to take the longer route.
A reason to find places you would never see otherwise.
And many more adventures to come. See you in your city next.
