One Day One City Episode One | Esztergom, Hungary with the MV Agusta Dragster 800.
This weekend I officially kicked off my new travel series,One Day One City, and this time the adventure took me across the border to the beautiful Hungarian city of Esztergom aboard my MV Agusta Dragster 800.
From the moment I fired up the engine in the morning, I knew this was going to be one of those rides that reminds you exactly why motorcycles are such a big part of your life. Great roads, perfect weather, a destination packed with history, and no pressure other than simply enjoying the journey.
Even though this was the first cross border trip in the series , it was also a chance for me to continue figuring out what works best when travelling and filming alone. Every ride teaches you something new what gear is worth carrying, what shots are worth stopping for, and when it’s better to put the camera away and simply enjoy the moment.
And honestly, Esztergom turned out to be one of those places where you could easily spend an entire day just wandering around without any real plan
The day began perfectly with a stop at Ettore Confectionery. Sitting outside with a coffee and a tiramisu while overlooking the town square felt like the ideal way to start the adventure. The atmosphere was fantastic, the square was slowly coming to life, and for a moment there was nowhere else I needed to be.
From there, I headed towards the city’s most famous landmark the Esztergom Basilica.
And what a place it isStanding high above the Danube River, the Basilica dominates the skyline and immediately captures your attention. The scale of the building is difficult to appreciate until you’re standing directly beneath it. Inside, the atmosphere was peaceful and impressive at the same time.
Following my wife’s instructions before I left home, I lit a candle inside the church. It was a small moment, but one that added something personal to the trip and gave me a chance to pause and appreciate the surroundings.
After exploring the interior, I spent some time strolling through the Basilica gardens. The views overlooking the Danube and the surrounding countryside were absolutely worth slowing down for.
Climbing the Basilica Tower for amazing views was great idea yet painfull one, But the pain was worth it for the views.
One of the unexpected highlights of the day came from a street musician performing nearby. The sound of traditional flutes echoed through the area and created one of those travel moments that no camera can truly capture. Sometimes it’s the things you don’t plan that end up becoming the strongest memories.
Before leaving, I picked up a souvenir from the Basilica something that will eventually find its place on the garage wall as another reminder of a great ride and another city explored.
By this point, hunger was beginning to take over, so it was time to find food.
I ended up at Nautilus Hajós Bar, and honestly, it may have been one of the best decisions of the entire trip.
It is a floating restaurant on the little Danube. Sitting on the water watching people pass by in small and large boat enjoying life was something else.
I ordered the Hekk & Chips, and from the very first bite it instantly transported me back to England. The crispy fish, perfectly cooked chips, and riverside atmosphere combined to create one of the best fish and chips experiences I’ve had in a very long time. Sometimes food unexpectedly becomes part of the journey, and this was definitely one of those moments.
After lunch, I continued my exploration along the Danube River.
The riverside walk was beautiful, but the real surprise came when I discovered a smaller promenade further along the bank. Surrounded by trees, cool shade, and the gentle flow of the river, it was one of the most peaceful places I’ve visited in quite some time. The contrast between the busy tourist areas and this quiet stretch of riverbank made it feel almost like a hidden escape.
Eventually, I made my way back into the heart of the city and spent some time wandering around Esztergom’s town square. With its colorful buildings, cafés, and relaxed atmosphere, it provided the perfect ending to an already fantastic day.
Looking back at the first episode of One Day One City, I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better start to the series.
Everything went according to plan. I visited everything I wanted to see.
I found great food. I enjoyed amazing scenery. And most importantly, I spent an entire day doing what motorcycles are meant for exploring somewhere new.
The MV Agusta Dragster 800 made every kilometer memorable, and sztergom proved to be the perfect destination for a one-day adventure. One motorcycle. One day.One city. And many more adventures to come.
